A Tough Game, A Tough Result: UYWRUFC 2s vs. Teeside 16 th November 2016

A postponed kick off, inside out shirts and strong winds; what was this game going to bring and how would it end? As soon as the whistle went both sides knew that this was going to be a difficult game, both sides having different strengths to the other. However, York unfortunately concede early on in the game with Teeside’s fullback shimmying and shaking her way through York’s defence. “What a boot” we hear the crowd cry when Teeside’s 10 flies the ball through the posts to score the conversion. Me (huge smile): “Hello! Have you ever thought of joining rugby?” Random girl I walked up to (slightly taken aback): “Me oh god no I could never!!!” Me (still grinning like an idiot): “None sense!! I bet you would be great at it!!! You know (babbling on about rugby magic)” A few of you have heard me rambling on about rugby and how amazing it is (because that’s a fact duh) on freshers fair and open days. I was just running around campus and walking up to girls from all ages and sizes to bombard them with info on tasters sessions, socials, training, how amazing the club is until they finally agree to sign up for the emailing list and took a flyer to attend taster sessions. Wednesday saw UYWRUFC 1's first away match of the season against Northumbria 2's. Arriving to bright, but cold and windy conditions, Northumbria were unable to field a full squad so 12 a side was agreed. This didn't dampen the mood and left us with a solid bank of subs. From the kick off York dominated the match, keeping good form and moving the ball round well. Within three minutes the first try to York had been scored, and after that they didn't stop coming. The combination of power in the centre and speed on the wings saw a massive 68-0 at half time. Northumbria didn't stop trying though, and some excellent kicking resulted in a few plays pretty close to the line, but our defence stayed s


Wow. WOW. OH MY GOSH! Today saw the very first game of the 1st XV 2016/17 season and boy it was not one to miss. UYWRUFC took on the University of Bradford and hit the ground running; every single player put their heart and soul into the match which undoubtedly paid off. This is dedicated to our 1st XV squad who I am sure will want to relive this game over and over again.
